A massive assortment of classic racing cars will converge upon Goulburn for this weekend’s inaugural One Raceway Historic Summer Spectacular.

In a twist designed to enhance the spectacle and create a unique challenge, competitors will race on the Wakefield (clockwise) Circuit on Saturday, before changing directions and competing on the Shelley (anti-clockwise) Circuit on Sunday.

According to One Raceway’s Head of Motorsport Lachlan Mansell, the Historic Summer Spectacular is all about enabling motorsport enthusiasts to enjoy warm weather at the nation’s spectator track, while being treated to some captivating on-track action.

“We have a terrific mixture of cars entered this weekend,” Mansell said.

“The Group N category for historic touring cars has attracted some 40 entries, and we’ve actually split the field into two groups for Over and Under 2 Litre cars.

“There’s no doubt fans will love the V8 Mustangs, Camaros and GT Falcons in the Over 2 Litre division, but the Minis and Lotus Cortinas in the Under 2 Litre races will be just as entertaining - the cars are nimble, lightweight and well-suited to the track.

“To mix things up, there will be a handicap race on Sunday morning where the slower cars get a head start and the faster cars have to chase them down, which will be exciting!”

Also attracting a strong field of over 30 entries is the Group S category, for historic production sports cars. Vehicles expected to feature at the front of the field include original air-cooled Porsche 911s, Corvettes and Shelby Mustangs, while the field also consists of MGs, Datsuns and Alfa Romeos.

Historic Formula Ford and Formula Vee will race in a combined field; a prominent name on the entry list is Kris Matich, son of former open-wheel star and two-time Australian Grand Prix winner Frank Matich.

The program will be completed by the Classic Touring Cars and Invited Supersprint - a class that caters for owners of historically-significant vehicles who do not wish to engage in wheel-to-wheel combat with others.
