State Champions for 2025 have been crowned at One Raceway, following the final round of the NSW Motor Racing Championships on the weekend.
After a dramatic one-hour NSW Production Touring Cars endurance race, Andrew McMaster clinched his third-straight title in the category, despite a series of mechanical problems that saw him limping his BMW 125i to the finish line in 16th position outright. In the end, McMaster held on by just two points from Richard Buttrose at the top of the standings.
The outright race winner was Jayson Williamson, who took victory in spectacular circumstances, overtaking the slowing BMW 1M of Alex Holtzl on the grass on the main straight, before losing control and crashing into the infield tyre wall.
Holtzl had taken the lead after the early front-runner, Simon Hodges, suffered a tyre failure, but Holtzl’s BMW suffered an electronic gremlin just a few corners from the finish line. After receiving a 60 second time penalty (for receiving outside mechanical assistance when Paul Loiacono attempted to push him to the chequered flag), Holtzl was classified fourth in the final finishing order behind the Ben/Michael Kavich BMW M2 and the Honda Civic Type R of Adam Gosling.
In the HQ Holdens, Jarrod Harber scored his first clean sweep, winning all three races after a close battle with David Proglio; third place for the round was enough for John Baxter to secure the title.
After a number of seasons of running at the front of the field but never winning the title, Simon Pace scored his maiden Formula Vee Championship with victories in two out of the three races, while Ryan DeBorre - son of former Supercars engineer Adam - won all three races in his car racing debut.
The Under and Over 2 Litre Improved Production fields were combined, with Scott Tutton (O2L Mitsubishi Evo) winning the first two races outright, before Matthew Birks (U2L Toyota Corolla) dominated the final, the two drivers winning the championships in their respective classes.
The Formula Race Cars category saw three different winners from three races; Michael Doherty won the opening affair in his Performer 1000, before Rodney Baker won Race 2. Baker and Doherty collided early in Race 3, allowing Graeme Holmes through for the win.
A heartbreaking gearbox failure in Race 1 of NSW Supersports consigned Mark Brame to the commentary box for the remainder of the weekend, and the beneficiary was Warwick Morris, who took the title while Terry Knowles and Steve Champion each scored race wins.
In the Superkart races, Laurie Fooks was the dominant winner of Races 2, 3 and 4 after the opening race was declared a non-event due to an early incident.
